On January 15, 2025, St. Augustine’s College in Cape Coast marked a significant milestone with the investiture of Rev. Fr. Dr. Patrick Godfred Appiah as its 17th headmaster. The ceremony was a testament to the institution’s enduring commitment to excellence in Catholic education and the holistic development of its students.
Rev. Fr. Dr. Appiah brings a wealth of experience to his new role. His previous positions include serving as Assistant Headmaster at both St. Augustine’s College and Holy Child Senior High School in Cape Coast. More recently, he was the Headmaster of St. Gregory Senior High School in Buduburam, Central Region, where he earned a reputation as a visionary leader and exemplary steward.
The induction ceremony was graced by a diverse gathering of dignitaries, including the Metropolitan Archbishop of Cape Coast and College Patron, Most Rev. Charles Gabriel Palmer-Buckle, and Archbishop Emeritus Matthias Kobena Nketsiah. Also in attendance were clergy, representatives from educational institutions, prominent alumni, teaching and non-teaching staff, students, and members of the broader Augusco community.
In his acceptance speech, Rev. Fr. Dr. Appiah expressed profound gratitude for the trust placed in him and pledged to advance the college’s mission. He emphasized the critical role of teamwork, discipline, and innovation in nurturing well-rounded students prepared to excel in a dynamic world. “Together, we will uphold and build upon the proud traditions of St. Augustine’s College,” he stated.
St. Augustine’s College, affectionately known as Augusco, is a prestigious all-male boarding academic institution founded in 1930. As the first Catholic school established in Ghana, it began at Amissano, a village near Elmina, before relocating to Cape Coast. The college was named after St. Augustine of Hippo and has a rich history of providing quality education and moral upbringing.
The investiture of Rev. Fr. Dr. Appiah as headmaster signifies a new chapter in the college’s storied history. His extensive experience and dedication to educational excellence are expected to further enhance the institution’s reputation as a center of academic and moral excellence.
